With the intention of addressing the economic needs that resulted from the devastation caused by Hurricane Michael in October of 2018, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has created the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Workforce Development Program, using the funds allocated to the state from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The purpose of the program is to provide the necessary funding to the selected colleges within the Technical College System of Georgia to develop and execute workforce education and training that will result in an increased and enhanced workforce in the impacted communities. Low- to moderate-income individuals residing and/or working in the 20 presidentially-declared counties are eligible to participate in this program.
This program will provide participants with the necessary skills and credentials needed to increase household income and promote the economic recovery of their communities. Activities under this program may include, but are not limited to, on-the-job training, customized training, job readiness services, and college credit courses. The program will also provide support services, such as child care and transportation, which will reduce or eliminate barriers to an individual’s ability to participate in program activities.
Eligible Counties: Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Crisp, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Laurens, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Randolph, Seminole, Sumter, Terrell, Thomas, Tift, Turner, and Worth.
