Program Description
Georgia law requires local governments to submit an annual Report of Local Government Finances (RLGF) to the Department of Community Affairs (DCA). These reports provide important information, used by state and local government policy makers to better understand and evaluate local government operations and service delivery strategies.
DCA provides complete data sets for research purposes, and the data is used to publish the annual City and County Fiscal Planning Guides, which provide printable data tables containing average and per capita dollar amounts for various revenue, expenditure, and liability categories. For comparative purposes these tables group information for local governments of similar population sizes.
RLGF Now in Microsoft Excel Format
The RLGF can be downloaded from DCA’s website in either Microsoft Excel or PDF formats. However, to expedite the process and help ensure the accuracy of the data, we strongly encourage local governments to use the Excel version. The Excel version can be used for any fiscal year.
The Excel spreadsheet can be downloaded to a desktop computer and completed from the desktop (the spreadsheet does the math!). Once completed, the spreadsheet should be emailed to DCA’s Office of Research at RLGF@dca.ga.gov.
Also, this spreadsheet includes an “attachments” tab to allow local government to submit required supplemental information in the same document. When emailing these Reports, please enter "RGLF" followed by your government's name in the subject line of your email.
Under “Downloads & Related Links” below, click on the first option Municipalities, Counties, and Consolidated Governments(MS Excel Spreadsheet) to get started. (Instructions and Uniform Chart of Accounts and other information are also provided but have not changed.) If you do not have access to MS Excel, click on the PDF option to print a hard copy to complete and return by mail.
