The Colquitt Theater has been transformed from a dormant building to a vibrant community resource. The site was an active place in the community in the 1950s and 1960s and served as a movie theater until the early 1970s.
This renovation was included in the development of the 2018-22 Community Work Program. Amenities include a seating capacity for close to 200 people, a full-service kitchen, and a ballroom which can also be utilized as a multi-purpose center. Funding was provided by OneGeorgia Authority, private sponsorship, local funds, and private donations.
The renovation has been a catalyst for downtown. The theater can also be used to host a variety of events. The Southwest Georgia Regional Council held its meeting there shortly after the building reopened.
