Georgia awarded nearly $35M in disaster relief recovery funds

As Gov. Brian Kemp and other governors continue to call upon Washington to put aside politics and pass a supplemental disaster appropriation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Georgia nearly $35 million in previously unallocated Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. Senators David Perdue and Johnny Isakson were instrumental in advancing this assistance.

“When Congress passed legislation that would serve as an initial response to Hurricane Florence [September 2018], no one expected that a Category 5 hurricane would make landfall just a few days after. Now, more than seven months later, it is time to publish the rules that will allow states to take the next step to receive the allocated CDBG-DR funds,” read a May 9 letter sent by senators to HUD Secretary Ben Carson.
