Federal Opportunity Zones Conference Showcases Progress

The second Federal Opportunity Zones (FOZ) Conference was held March 1 at Albany Technical College, which served as a wonderful host to our 90+ members of FOZ communities and interested parties. The conference focused on educating FOZ communities on updated legislation, current types of investments happening in Federal Opportunity Zones, and what FOZ community leaders need to know about developing their own community plan to attract Federal Opportunity Fund investors.

The group was welcomed by Georgia Department of Economic Development Chief Operating Office Bert Brantley. Walter Davis of Peachtree Providence Partners and Brad Elphick of Novogradac provided great insight into real-world application and industry knowledge surrounding the use and implementation of Federal Opportunity Zones.

Davis focused on an overview and rules of the program, and Elphick discussed how to prepare community plans. Georgia Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Christopher Nunn hosted a panel-style session along with Davis in which they conversed on deals happening now.

After a delicious lunch catered by Southern Elegance, DCA Geographic Information Systems team provided an interactive experience through the newly developed FOZ interactive software. See more of the action on Facebook.

We look forward to the next FOZ Conference to be held on April 30 in Statesboro on the campus of Ogeechee Technical College. For more information, email FederalOZ@dca.ga.gov.
