Fall Conference to focus on innovation, success across Georgia
Planners, developers, county commissioners and state officials will be convening for the 3rd Annual Fall Conference and Awards Dinner on Oct. 15-17 at Great Wolf Lodge in LaGrange. More than 300 people are expected to receive updates on legislation, best practices and success stories.
Conference presenters include DCA staff members and agency partners who represent areas of safe and affordable housing, community and economic development, and local government assistance. There will be multiple sessions for attendees to learn and gain necessary tools to build and maintain successful DCA-funded programs. Topics will include, but are not limited to, community development block grants, fair housing, planning and home ownership.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in a mobile tour of LaGrange and Troup County. The tour is designed to showcase DCA’s mission – helping to build strong, vibrant communities – in action.
The awards dinner will recognize community designations. Programs include the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing, PlanFirst and Rural Zones. Financial awards and those coveted “big checks” will also be presented to new grantees within the following programs: Appalachian Regional Commission, Community Home Investment Program, OneGeorgia Equity, and the Community Development Block Grant to include the Employee Incentive Program and Redevelopment Fund.
New this year: the Innovation Award. Rusty Haygood, Deputy Commissioner for Community Development and Finance, said, “I am looking for something to transform the community and raise the bar for everyone else.”
Christopher Nunn, DCA Commissioner, said, “This conference is an opportunity for us to highlight success across the state while continuing to provide resources and education to secure Georgia’s future. Conference attendees will be equipped with powerful knowledge which will benefit their communities.”
