WHAT IS AMERICORPS: AmeriCorps is a national service program modeled after the “Peace Corps. Much like the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps programs provide opportunities for individuals to commit to a year of service in organizations whose mission is to meet critical needs in local communities. JOINING AN AMERICORPS PROGRAM: Each year, thousands of committed citizens join Georgia’s AmeriCorps programs. Those who join are as diverse as the host organizations managing the programs. AmeriCorps Members must be a U.S. Citizen, have at least a high school diploma, demonstrate a commitment to serve, and pass a state and national background screening. Some programs require a college degree.

AMERICORPS PROGRAM BENEFITS: During a year of service, AmeriCorps members are eligible to receive a modest living allowance, training and professional development, and other benefits that come with serving the community. Full-time AmeriCorps Members may be eligible to receive health care and child care. After AmeriCorps members complete their year of service, they are awarded the Siegel Educational award that can be used to pay towards a federal student loan that is not in default or for current educational costs.
