Harristown Park is a 60 unit project that will provide housing for older persons in the City of Covington, Newton County. The project consists of three (3) buildings with 17 one-bedroom units and 48 two-bedroom units that will be income restricted to tenants earning 50 and 60 percent or less of the Area Median Income. The project is requesting funds to fill the gap due to the decrease in pricing of the federal and state credits as well as the reduced construction loan amount. Construction of Harristown Park is expected to generate approximately 70 full time jobs and 25 part-time positions over the projected twelve month construction period. The project’s green initiatives include a photovoltaic system to power electricity for common areas, solar water heating in common areas, a rainwater collection system to provide irrigation for the community gardens and extensive xeriscaping for planting areas across the site to minimize watering requirements and increase sustainability.
