History

From its county population in 2000 of 15983 to its current population estimate of 18207, the county has experienced a growth change of 2224.

The name was chosen for Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar (1825-93), a Putnam County native who became a U.S. Senator (elected to represent Mississippi), secretary of the interior, and associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
